Editor’s Note: Babble is a part of the Walt Disney Company.
We’ve seen quite a few Disney newborn photo shoots go viral recently, from the six tiny babies who were transformed into Disney Princesses to the Star Wars-loving quadruplets who showed us all how to rock a light saber. But Texas parents Gaby and Chris Lopez are proving that Disney-themed photos aren’t just for newborns, with their 1-year-old son’s recent birthday photo shoot.
The Lopezes tell Babble they spent a long time hoping that someday, their little prince would come. The Spring, Texas couple struggled with infertility for years before they were able to get pregnant, all the while collecting toys on their annual Disney World trips for their future baby-to-be.
So when they finally welcomed their son Santiago last year, the Lopezes knew right away how they wanted to commemorate his 1st birthday: with a Disney-themed photo shoot that would showcase the many souvenirs they’d acquired over the years.
“I have seen so many sessions of princess pictures, I thought, boys can do that, too!” Gaby tells Babble.
So along with local photographer Kristie Mills, Gaby and Chris set out to their favorite local park to make their vision come to life.
The couple ultimately decided to dress their little boy as Prince Charming from Cinderella, the Prince from Snow White, Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. And with each costume change, it was as if little Santiago was born to play the role.
I mean, just look at how he totally owns this Prince Charming outfit — while holding that infamous glass slipper!
While Gaby shares that her favorite Disney prince is Aladdin, because she “love[s] his personality and the way his character develops through the film,” Santiago seemed to take a liking to Prince Charming.
“He kept looking at all the detail in his jacket,” she shares. “He actually was upset when we took his costume off.”
And according to Gaby, the little charmer may have found himself a Cinderella while posing for the shoot! Throughout the one-hour session, Gaby says they kept trying to get Santiago to smile for the camera to no success. But towards the end of the shoot, a few little girls walked by and started waving at him.
“At this moment, his face lit up and we got some of the biggest smiles out of him,” Gaby tells Babble. “He loves being around kids.”
He may only be 1 year old, but little Santiago sure has this handsome prince thing down pat!
And it just so happens, he might get another chance to reenact the Disney princes: The Lopezes will be taking Santiago to Disney World this March, where they hope to photograph him along with the real Disney Princess counterparts.
Gaby says she and her husband have gone to Disney World every other year for some time now, but explains that this trip is going to feel particularly special since it will be Santiago’s first time going to the park. As you can imagine, they truly can’t wait to experience it all through their son’s eyes.
“As we grow up, we become jaded to many things around us,” Gaby shares. “Life and the miracle that is to live it starts losing its magic. Disney reminds me of how magical and special life can be if you let it.”
May this family have all the Disney magic in their lives they deserve!More On
