You are the ones that spend more time with my children than I do. You greet them each morning, give hugs, offer reassurance, cheer them on, share comfort, and yes, you teach them. And while it may be what you were hired for, we both know you do so much more than just teach.
And for that, I thank you. I will miss you this summer more than you know.
So goodbye for now to the teachers who held the hearts of my four children.
Goodbye to the teachers who made me believe there is a profession that is solely dedicated to the betterment of the next generation.
Goodbye to the teachers who came home in the stories of my children, filled with loving details and hearty laughter.
Goodbye to the teachers who showed my daughter that school is a safe home away from home.
Goodbye to the teachers who hugged me tightly and said thank you, even though I did nothing.
Goodbye to the teachers who I could never thank enough for offering my children a glimpse into their own future and a love of learning.
Goodbye to the teachers who welcomed me into their classrooms, smiled at me as I walked down the hall, and made me feel that my role is important.
Goodbye to the teachers who I did not allow to see my tears, though I bawled once I reached the safety of my car.
Goodbye to the teachers who said goodbye to my son and I watched him wipe away his own tears.
Goodbye to the teachers who have made my children’s year — and mine — so wonderful.
Goodbye and thank you — a million times over.More On
