According to Entertainment Tonight, the Jackson fam is about to get even bigger: Janet Jackson is pregnant!
Though reps for the pop icon have yet to make an official announcement, ET reports that a source close to Jackson confirmed the singer — who turns 50 in just a few short weeks — is in fact expecting her first child with husband Wissam Al Mana.
The news of Jackson’s pregnancy may come as a shock to some, but loyal Janet fans may not find it a huge surprise, given her recent cancellation of her Unbreakable World Tour.
In a video posted to fans on Twitter April 6, Jackson shared:
“We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”
While Janet didn’t get too specific about things, she did beg her fans to forgive her for cutting the tour short — explaining that “doctor’s orders” were behind her decision to rest.
“Please, if you could try and understand that it’s important that I do this now,” she continued. “I have to rest up, doctor’s orders. But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
Entertainment Tonight isn’t the only outlet reporting this one, though. An E! News source also claims that the singer is well into her second trimester, and that she and Mana — a Qatari businessman she married quietly back in 2012 — had been trying to get pregnant for some time, with the help of a fertility specialist.
While getting pregnant in your mid-to-late 40s isn’t unheard of (even in the celeb world) it’s still pretty rare, and is typically only achievable with some amount of reproductive help. According to CNN, the chances of getting pregnant after 45 are less than 5% — which makes Jackson’s pregnancy all the more amazing.
