When I first found out I was expecting my third (and last) child, I’ll admit I was beyond shocked. My husband and I had finally given away the last of our baby gear — including a $300 breast pump just two short weeks before we saw those tiny pink lines announcing another baby. When it came time to announce the pregnancy, we posted a funny meme on Facebook and, aside from a few phone calls to the grandparents, we let social media do the talking for us.
In a recent Instagram post, Jessica Roberts of the blog Raising Roberts shared a clever (and super sweet) image to announce her seventh pregnancy — that’s right, SEVENTH! — and I gotta admit, it’s making me wish I’d thought of something similar.
The image shows Roberts and her husband standing alongside their six children, who are lined up in size order with a numbered balloon over their heads, marking their birth order. Beside Roberts’ belly? We see a No. 7 balloon, revealing that she’s got one more on the way.
The photo has been liked 3,800 times and counting, with well-wishers offering up lots of heart emojis and congratulatory praise. It’s even inspired commentary on the size of her growing family, with one commenter writing: “Amazing!! My grandmother had 9 and it’s just less common now but doesn’t mean it isn’t a blessing!! Congratulations.”
“Happy for you!” wrote another. “Love big families!!”
“I had been trying to come up with a fun, unique way to announce for a couple of weeks,” Roberts tells Babble. “However, around 8 weeks, we thought we lost the baby. I was so thankful to see a healthy baby moving around on the screen the following week!”
Having been through a similar scare during my second pregnancy, I can totally relate to the overwhelming relief any mom would feel after learning her little sprout is still growing. It’s no wonder then that she was inspired to dream up such a sweet and memorable way to announce Baby No. 7’s arrival.
“I decided to stop trying to think of something unique and just do my own fun spin on the balloon announcement,” Roberts shares. “I thought it would be fun to do something with numbers. I also love lining my kids up by size for pictures so I just combined the two ideas. It was very simple, but I love how it turned out.”
And as for her kids, they’re all pretty stoked about getting another sibling. “They are all very excited!” she shares. “They are already talking about the next baby, and the baby after that, and the baby after that. They want me to have 20 babies, but that won’t be happening!”
Although Roberts doesn’t remember exactly how she announced her first few pregnancies, she does recall getting pretty creative with No. 6.
“With my [last] pregnancy, I made four letter pillows that spelled out the word ‘baby’ and the kids helped us hold them up for a picture,” she shares. “The more my love for photography has grown, the more thought I have put into announcements.”
It clearly shows! Congrats to the Roberts family on Baby No. 7 — and for making her (or him!) go viral before they’ve even arrived.
