Utah bride Kaley West Young tells Babble that she had always planned on having a father-daughter dance on her wedding day.
“It was always something me and my dad had talked about and looked forward to,” she says.
Sadly, losing her father in 2015 meant that she would never have the father-daughter dance she dreamed of — but it did inspire her five older brothers to step up in a big way.
In a stunning act of love that left everyone in tears, Kaley’s brothers created a unique dance tribute captured in this YouTube video that has since gotten over 100K views.
In the video, we see the look of shock on Kaley’s face when her brother Kevin West announces that he and his four brothers would step in for their father and take turns dancing with the new bride to Michael Bolton’s “Fathers & Daughters.” As we notice later in the video, the song was edited by Kaley’s brother Kasey to include a very special surprise.
As Kaley and Kasey begin to sway to the first notes of the song, we suddenly hear the voice of their late father, David West, saying, “Hi Kaley! My name is Dave West and I’m Kaley’s dad, and I love her very much, 1800 times worth.”
It is such a powerful moment, and you can tell the immediate impact that hearing her father’s voice has on the stunning bride as she places her palm to her forehead, continuously wiping away tears.
The song continues with Bolton’s gentle crooning voice and snippets of Dave West’s voice included throughout, as each brother takes a turn swaying Kaley around the dance floor. It is impossible not to tear up watching this incredible moment between these siblings.
For the bride, it was everything.
Kaley says that she was “completely stunned” the moment she first heard her father’s voice and feels that her brothers provided her with “the most special gift.”
“For one moment in my life, it felt like my dad was there with me and talking to me again,” she says. “There was tangible love spread amongst everyone in the ballroom.”
The touching video was even viewed by Michael Bolton himself, who tweeted:
“I’m humbled and honored that the West brothers choose my song #FathersandDaughters to dance with their sister Kaylee at her wedding. their video brought me to tears.”
Likewise, Kaley’s brother Dustin West told USA Today that he couldn’t help but feel touched, saying that there was “really not a dry eye in the crowd.”
He also explained that Kaley is the youngest in the family, and the only girl.
“She was definitely his favorite,” said Dustin. “Hands down. She’s the youngest, his baby girl. They really just had this amazing bond.”
That bond remained apparent in Kaley’s reaction during the “father-daughter” song. As heartbreaking as it is that her father could not join her for the dance, the way that her brothers stepped in demonstrated not only the love they have for her as siblings — but how much her father loved her, too.
