Let’s be honest for a moment: many of us have a secret love for McDonald’s. Those crispy, golden, salty fries. Those tasty milkshakes. The temptation of the dollar menu where all your dreams can come true for under a buck.
But while many of us may enjoy the “Golden Arches,” one enthusiastic teenager from Mississippi just took her love of the fast food chain to a legendary level with an epic McDonald’s themed photo shoot. Mikayla Cleckler’s senior photo session, aptly titled “Mikayla’s McLovin’ It” featuring the hashtag #shesmcdone is cracking people up online and inspiring outside-the-box senior pictures.
Mikayla Cleckler, 17, attends Northeast Jones High School, where she is involved in several community service groups. She tells Babble that she has a special interest in beauty, especially makeup. “I always try to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in the makeup world!” she notes. After high school, Cleckler plans to attend Pearl River Community College’s dental hygiene program in the hopes of becoming a dental hygienist.
Until she takes the plunge into tackling those pearly whites, Cleckler is busy partnering with her cousin, Jana Cooley, 21, a professional photographer and criminal justice student in the Mississippi area. Cooley says that when Cleckler asked her to take her photos, she just knew they had to incorporate McDonald’s somehow.
“She is OBSESSED with their buttermilk chicken sandwiches and just knowing the type of person she is, we wouldn’t be doing the world justice if we didn’t incorporate a little humor,” explains Cooley.
Fortunately, the senior was on board with the idea, too. “I was all for it!” Cleckler gushes, explaining that she has a secret love for McDonald’s — particularly their buttermilk chicken sandwiches. “I get one at least twice a week,” she adds.
Unfortunately, there is a price for art and Cleckler informs us that more than a few fries lost their lives in the making of this photo shoot.
“I’m just as upset about it as everyone else,” Cleckler assures us. “It was so painful to watch, but it was SO worth it!” Cooley adds. “It actually only took about six or seven dumps of precious golden goodness.”
Still, the sacrifice has been worth it. Cleckler says it’s been fun to see the reactions the photo shoot has gotten and how it has inspired other people to do their own food-themed shoots. Her family and friends approved of the photo shoot, noting that it perfectly captured her personality. Since the photos have gone viral, Cooley notes that not all reactions have been positive, but she remains focused on being true to herself.
“There have been a few people on social media not lovin’ the photos,” Cooley explains. “But Mikayla, being her confident and beautiful self, hasn’t let it get the best of her.”
And should Cleckler’s photos make their way to the good people at McDonald’s headquarters, she only has one message for them: “Never take buttermilk chicken sandwiches off the menu!” she laughs. But um, seriously. Please don’t.
