Dalton Ross is funny. So funny in fact, that you may remember him for going viral back in 2014, thanks to a slightly odd (but oddly addicting?) video he made called “Cereal” that now has over 1.5 million YouTube views. (Watch it later; perhaps after a glass of wine or two.)

But Ross’ mom, Susan Talley, is way funnier. She’s also way better at this viral meme game than Ross probably ever suspected. And now the whole Internet knows it.

You see, earlier this year, when Ross headed off to study abroad in London at the University of Westminster, the 22-year-old college junior suspected his mom might be a little lonely in his absence back in Nashville, Tennessee.

But that’s when he got a little inspired.

To keep his mom company, Ross took a full-body photo of himself and had it recreated into a standing cardboard cutout (as one does). Then he shipped it home to Mom, who thought it was just about the best thing ever.

“It was just a silly random idea that came to me as I’m studying abroad here in London,” he tells Babble. “Just thought it would get a laugh from my family but my mom had bigger and better plans.”

And that she did.

While real Ross was skipping all over London sipping tea and eating crumpets (I mean, probably), cardboard Ross was busy trekking all over Nashville with Mom, having a blast and getting sh*t done.

Here he is at the dentist, awaiting his six-month check-up.

And here he is at his annual physical, making sure everything is in working order.

Yep; Mom and cardboard Dalton have sure been having the time of their lives.

If all of this has left you a little inspired, just know this: having a cardboard cutout of yourself made ain’t cheap. As Ross tells Babble, he shelled out $106 for his cardboard self.

Still, that’s a relatively small price to pay for the glory of viral fame, if you ask me. And Ross, I’d wager, would likely agree.

“[I definitely] did not expect it to go viral,” he tells Babble. “Especially to this degree — we’re getting contacted by so many media companies. It’s very cool and exciting!”
