Target to Close 13 Stores Across the Country

In a move that is sure to devastate thousands of loyal Target fans, the retail giant announced today that they will be closing 13 of their 1,799 stores nationwide. [cue the panic]

A Target spokesperson said “the decision to close a Target store is not made lightly.” And to that we say: Target, our decision to freak out is not taken lightly, either. Prepare yourself.

Here’s the official list of affected stores (we sincerely hope, dear readers, that your town has been spared):

Austin North East in Austin, TX

Suncoast Pasco County in Odessa, FL

Casa Grande, AZ

Victorville, CA

East Flint in Flint, MI

Columbus Southwest in Columbus, OH

Springfield, OH

Northridge in Milwakee, WI

Superior, WI

New Ulm, MN

Ottumwa, IA

Anderson, IN

Dixie Highway in Louisville, KY

Disgruntled shoppers took to Twitter to voice their shock and disappointment:

Some Minnesota residents even started their own Facebook and Twitter campaigns in hopes of saving their local New Ulm store.

Thankfully, the stores will remain open through the holidays — closing their doors for good on January 31, 2016. And (most importantly) the decision will not result in huge layoffs, as “eligible” employees will be given the choice to work at an alternate location. Of course, it is unclear what makes an employee “eligible” and how many of those currently employed qualify for such status.

Well, Happy Monday to us. Womp womp.
