Every Friday, a little boy in East Dallas anxiously awaits his weekly visit from his best friend. Sitting in his driveway, 2-year-old Deacon Ross plays with his toy garbage truck and looks out for the familiar face — the face of O Dee, the local garbage man.
As reported by USA Today, O Dee, whose real name is Oladele Olurunrinu, picks up the recycling in Deacon’s neighborhood and has struck up an unlikely friendship with the tyke. Greeting him with a fist bump, O Dee takes the time each week to bond with the boy, an event Deacon calls “O Dee Day.” They’ve become so close, Deacon has decided he wants his next sibling to be named O Dee.
Sadly though, the arrival of a new sibling means Deacon and his family are moving to a new home in a neighborhood that is not on O Dee’s route. To mark this event, Deacon’s mom threw a goodbye party — complete with cookies, gift baskets, and lots of photos.
