These Photos Capture What It’s Really Like Being Pregnant

Moms and moms-to-be everywhere will laugh knowingly at Danielle Guenther’s new line of maternity photos. This family photographer from Hoboken, NJ takes photos of her mom-to-be clients in a variety of real world scenarios that are universally familiar to all pregnant women — at least all the ones that don’t spend their pregnancies gazing lovingly at their bellies on white sand beaches, draped in white toga-like garments.

Guenther, like many of us, was tired of seeing totally unrealistic, obviously staged photos in her Instagram feed, which is why she came up with her popular Best Case Scenario photo series.

For her latest What the BUMP!? series, she expands, pun intended, into maternity photos with her same realistic and hilarious shots. These are some of my faves:

This is one that I call, “This is why you should Uber in the ninth month.”

Then there is this frameable shot, called, “It’s not ignoring your kids, it’s preparing them for being ousted by the new baby.”

And here’s what I call, “They said no sushi but nobody mentioned 16 foot ladders. Oh, they did?”

This one should be titled, “This exhausted mom still rallies to give her kids lessons in problem-solving and self-sufficiency.”

And here is what I call, “Just ‘leaning in’ at work.”

And here is, “Today I picked yoga over cleaning because I CAN’T DO EVERYTHING DAMMIT.”

If you like these photos, consider making your own maternity shoot a bit more, shall we say, real. Your mother-in-law may not approve, but that’s half the fun anyway.
