Dogs are amazing. I cannot say this enough. Each day as a pet writer affords me the opportunity to learn about the many ways that dogs enrich our lives. Too often, we hear about the ways that dogs have been abused and neglected. Sometimes we save dogs and other times they save us, whether it is helping us believe in the goodness of life or quite literally saving us from fires and medical emergencies. This one little dog in Thailand saved the most precious kind of life… a newborn baby.
This two-year-old male dog named Pui found a newborn baby abandoned near a roadside dump in the Tha Rua district of Ayutthaya province.
The baby girl was wrapped in a bag. Pui picked up the bag and brought it to his home. Once there, he placed the bag on the floor and began barking for his owners. Sudarat Thongmak, 12, came to see what had Pui so upset and found the baby in the bag. Sudarat ran to her parents and they immediately took the baby to the hospital. The newborn still had her umbilical cord attached.
The baby is believed to have been born prematurely, at only seven and a half months gestation, and remain in critical condition. Amazingly, Sudarat’s mom, Pummarat is considering adopting the baby.
Hero dog, Pui is a Bangkaew type of dog which is a Thai dog breed. Pui recently received a certificate from the Red Cross for his noble act. In addition, the Miracle of Life Foundation has donated funds to help feed Pui and the other three dogs at the family’s home.
