Commemorate Your Pregnancy With a 3D Model of Your Fetus

Packaging1I’ve saved every single ultrasound from all of my pregnancies. I remember walking into the ultrasound rooms being anxious to see my child up on the screen. When the ultrasound tech showed me the image for the first time, I was overcome with joy. I looked forward to every visit knowing that I was going to see that little one who was growing inside of me.

The ultrasound photos from those appointments were ones that I’d immediately post on social media and couldn’t wait to share with family and friends. I loved to speculate from the photos just who my little one looked like–me or my husband. I still love looking at those ultrasound photos as they are amazing keepsakes from an incredible journey in my life.

One company is now taking those amazing ultrasound keepsakes and taking it a step further by allowing you to purchase a 3D figurine of your bundle of joy. That’s right, you will be able to hold your baby before he is even born.

With 3D printing technology, 3D Babies  creates custom figurine of your baby. Available in 3 sizes and ranging from $200-$600, the figurine will resemble your baby’s facial expressions and body position based on ultrasound photos you provide them. The site even offers a 3D image of baby North, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter.

While I really do think that this is a great way to use technology and something that many parents would love to have, it’s not something that I would purchase. I have no idea what I would do with this sort of commemorative item. All of my ultrasounds are packed away in a special drawer that I look at occasionally. This doesn’t seem like the kind of item I would have displayed on one of a shelf in my apartment as I think that people might be a little bit creeped out by it. And with the hefty price tag, it might not be worth the cost when I know just how special I feel just looking at an ultrasound photo.

What do you think of the 3D figurine–cute or creepy?
