From calcium, magnesium, iron, and fiber to greens, fruits, veggies, and lean proteins, there are so many supplements and foods that women are supposed to consume when they are trying to conceive a baby that figuring out what to take and eat often feels like a full-time job. But what if you could drink one smoothie a day that pretty much contained all the nutrients, antioxidants, and supplements needed to help you conceive a healthy baby? Sounds too good to be true, right?
I thought so too, until I met Lori Bregman in April 2014. While interviewing her for a story I was working on, I drank one of her Get Preggers smoothies. Maybe it was a coincidence, but within weeks of drinking the delicious concoction, I was knocked up with baby number two.
While it is unlikely that drinking just one of these smoothies is responsible for my daughter’s life (my husband did have a part in her conception, after all), women around the world — including Molly Sims and Chrissy Teigen — are fans of the fertility, doula, and wellness coach-of-the-stars’ trio of smoothies, which include: Get Preggy (a fertility smoothie), Knocked Up (a pregnancy smoothie), and More Milk (a post-pregnancy breastmilk booster).
Sims, who is currently pregnant with her third child at the age of 43, penned that she drank the “ridiculously good-tasting” beverage “almost every single day” a few months before conceiving her first child until a few months after giving birth in her book The Everyday Supermodel and recently shared a video on her YouTube channel of herself, along with Bregman, making the nutrient-rich smoothie.
“I came up with my fertility smoothie because I was getting older and wanted to keep my hormones balanced and my body fertile, without taking a million supplements,” Bregman explains to Babble.
“I started sharing it with my clients and friends and after Molly blogged about it, it really went viral.”
The Get Preggy Fertility Smoothie is formulated with antioxidant-rich mixed organic berries and acai berry, wheatgrass (helps lower FSH levels and creates a more alkaline pH so sperm can better do their thing!), maca root (increases energy and libido and creates a healthier endocrine system), royal jelly (to balance hormones, reduce stress, and raise estrogen levels), bee pollen (a natural aphrodisiac that helps produce healthy eggs), liquid omegas (balances hormones and helps regulate menstrual cycle), protein powder (for healthy tissue development), and almond or rice milk.
Bregman brought her smoothies to Southern California juice bar Beaming, where she and the store’s founder Lisa Odenweller worked on taking them to next-level status. “Get Preggy” Fertility Smoothie
- 4 oz. almond milk
- 4 oz. coconut water
- 1 tsp. coconut butter
- 1 tbsp. green protein
- 1 tbsp. acai powder
- 1 tsp. goji berries
- 1 tsp. Superfood Greens
- 1 tsp. ground flax powder
- 1 tbsp. maca root
- 1/4 tsp. royal jelly
- 1/2 cup frozen banana
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/4 avocado
- 1/3 cup ice
- 1 tsp. bee pollen for garnish (optional)
- In a blender, mix all of the ingredients except the bee pollen and blend well.
- Pour into a glass and top with bee pollen.
