If you want to know exactly when you're going to ovulate, break out the ovulation predictor kit. Based on your BBT chart, begin using the kit five days before you think you're going to ovulate. When you get a positive reading, that's the time to start having sex!
The best time to try to conceive is before your body releases the egg to be fertilized, says Dr. Shelley Binkley, an OB-GYN with Copper Canyon Women's Center. "Research shows peak pregnancy rates are when people have intercourse three days before the release of the egg," she says.
Not only can having a well-prepared body help with quick conception, it can result in an easier nine months, complication-free birth, and healthier baby. So, what do you think? Is your body ready for pregnancy? Take our quiz and find out!
Dr. Binkley says every woman should take a multivitamin every day, just in case. "This will give a woman enough folic acid to provide for conception," says Dr. Binkley. Folic acid supplementation is critically important to prevent neural tube defects such as spinal bifida.
Dr. Binkley says the vast majority of couples who have no fertility issues are pregnant after 12 consistent months of trying. However, she recommends people consult their doc after six months if they've been tracking fertility, are in good health, and have a good idea of when ovulation occurs.
