My 26 Week Pregnancy BumpdateDevan McGuinness
Wow! My pregnancy is flying by for me and I can’t believe I am nearing the end of the second trimester already! I am in my 26th week of pregnancy and a lot has changed this week.
I had a lot of decisions to make this week about where we would deliver the baby, which doctor would be in charge of my care, and how delivery would happen. It was a debate between staying with my OB now who is at a smaller hospital, but we love him, or switching to the larger hospital a few hours away and switching OB’s. It’s an equal pro/con list for baby and myself and it was a big debate over convenience vs risk management. If I could have chosen the most ideal situation, I would want my current OB to manage my care and assist my delivery at the larger hospital, but things don’t work that way.
We ultimately made our decision and both my husband and I are happy with it. Barring any issues with baby’s echocardiogram or growth issues later on, we will be delivering in the smaller hospital with my current OB (who has been with me since we lost Triton 5-years ago). We also made decisions on labor and delivery, which I will get more into later.
Week of pregnancy: 26 weeks
Weight gain: Minus 16 pounds
Symptoms: Heartburn, nausea + vomiting, achy hips, trouble sleeping at night.
Showing yet?: Yes & according to my latest prenatal appointment I am finally caught up in fundal height — actually measuring 2 weeks ahead now.
The best thing: Not worrying about baby’s size right now.
The most difficult thing: Not talking about my shape negatively. I work hard on that though.
Feeling baby move?: Yes and his movements have changed a lot this week. He is so much stronger and I can watch my stomach move with him.
Maternity clothes?: I am still easily fitting into non-maternity pants, jeans + dresses, but maternity tops are a must.
Appointments coming up: Hematologist appointment for myself to check in on my Factor V Leiden and blood thinner injections. I also have the fetal echocardiogram for Baby S coming up later this month.
Looking forward to: Getting all the things ready for the baby and planning life around it.
Boy or girl?: He’s a boy! Confirmed by 4 different ultrasounds & technicians. We have a name picked out and everything — online right now he’s known as Baby S, but the kids call him Pingou (not his real name, don’t worry 😉 )
Purchases?: I bought a Snoogle body pillow and can sleep again. Also, 2 baby sleepers that my kids picked out.
