Newborn Amnesia: My New Affliction

baby_earI have just about three weeks until this baby arrives.

Three. Weeks.

I already told you about how woefully unprepared I am in the gear department, though I have been working on it slowly. I now have pacifiers and some bottles. Woot!

My bigger problem is that I’m concerned I’ve forgotten how to use all this gear I’m slowly collecting. I’m sure you’ve heard of childbirth amnesia–it’s that psychological force that makes you forget the pain of labor and crowning so that you’ll want to do it again someday. (Obviously many of us would be only children if it weren’t for this nifty brain trick.)

Well, I think I’ve got newborn amnesia. It’s been over three years since I’ve had a baby and I don’t for the life of me know if I remember how to take care of a newborn. If you handed me one right now would I know how to hold it? I’m certain I have forgotten how to properly swaddle a baby. I vaguely remember breastfeeding being not-do-fun the first couple weeks. And wait, how often do they get hungry? All the time? Seriously?!

Do you suffer from newborn amnesia?
