Pregnant Waitress Receives Best Surprise from Stranger: “I Saw It and Broke Down”

While the holidays may be slowly coming to an end, the feel-good stories of generosity and kindness are still pouring in. Such is the case with Sarah Clark. The server and bartender at Pita Jungle in Phoenix, Arizona, received a heartwarming surprise on one of her shifts two weeks ago: a $900 tip.

For 29-year-old Clark, who is 9 months pregnant with her first child, this gesture was especially meaningful.

“You always hear about these [things] happening, but you never expect to be the recipient of it,” Clark told CNN affiliate KHPO. “It’s a huge, huge help for me and my family.”

The generous customer who left the tip was also pregnant, and Clark recalls chatting with her about their pregnancies several times, but she said she never expected this to happen.

The bill, which only came out to $61.30, was accompanied with the the $900 tip and a note from the customer: “This is God’s money — he gave it to us so we could give it to you. God bless.”

Clark told KPHO that both her and her fiancé work in the restaurant industry, and that he’s actually going to be out of work himself to recover from knee surgery, so this act of kindness could not have come at a better time.

“I don’t know if she really understands how much this is going to help us this season,” Clark said. “Me being on maternity leave and him being out of work [while recovering from the surgery], we’re not going to be making any income. So this is really going to help with rent and other bills and things like that.”

We all know how expensive it can be to bring a baby into the world, from the steep hospital fees to the thousands of dollars you’ll spend on diapers and other baby necessities, the costs add up quickly. This is why Clark was so touched by the gesture.

“After she had left, I saw it and broke down pretty much,” Clark said. “It’s always wonderful when somebody can do something so generous, or something to really help somebody else’s situation out. I plan to pay it forward as much as I can too. Definitely.”

And we here at Babble plan on paying it forward, too.
