Your Astrological Signs May Not Be What You Think… Meet Ophiuchus, The Dark Horse of Zodiac Signs

zodiac signs, astrological signsI’ve already professed my ambivalence about astrology, especially when it comes to babies. But I must admit that my interest was piqued by this new story saying we may have our astrological signs all wrong. Apparently, there’s a theory among astrologers that the equatorial alignment of the earth has changed since the zodiac signs were introduced 3,000 years ago. This tilt has shifted the relationship of the earth to the sun, and the astrological signs have changed accordingly. And some astrologers believe there should actually be 13 astrological signs, including the little known sign Ophiuchus.

Ophiuchus falls between Scorpio and Sagittarius, and it’s so hard to spell I’m surprised that so many people have been able to Google it. Thank goodness for cut and paste. And though I can’t offer spelling help for those of you who may have babies born under this sign (in case it takes off), I’m happy to be able to tell you how to pronounce it:

OFF-ee-YOO-kuss. Phew. I was a little worried about that CH, especially as those babies will be born during phlegm season.

According to astrologer Parke Kunkle, the new arrangement of astrological signs reads as follows:

Capricorn: Jan. 20 – Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18- May 13
Taurus: May 13- June 21
Gemini: June 21- July 20
Cancer: July 20- Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10- Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16- Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17- Jan. 20

So according to this guy, whatever you’ve read about your astrological sign is probably wrong. Now that I’m a Leo, I’m feeling so much more confident! And I now understand why I’m so bossy. And messy! I’m not a Virgo! I feel less stressed out already. And my daughter is no longer a Scorpio as the notoriously difficult sign only applies to one week in this arrangement. Does that mean she won’t be as “challenging”? Somehow I doubt it.

What does this mean for you and your baby and your astrological relationship? Well, look at it this way. If you want to find a way of applying zodiac signs to try to interpret your personalities, you now have more options. If one astrological system doesn’t seem to fit, you can always try the other one!
