12 Great Quotes from Romantic Holiday Movies

There’s something wonderful about curling up beside my husband in front of the television and burying myself deep in his shoulders as I try to escape the cold. The glow of Christmas lights dances across the room and a bowl of freshly popped popcorn beckons my snack-loving fingers. It’s the perfect welcome to the weekend after a long exhausting week. A chance to sit back and watch a favorite movie even if our little ones are sprawled out on the sectional beside us fast asleep.

This past weekend as we finished watching Elf (it was our second attempt after all of us falling asleep during our first attempt) I started noting all of the other holiday movies we had yet to see. And what I meant by “yet to see” was this year.

While my list included movies our oldest daughter loves and would love, it also included a little holiday humor and romance movies that warm your heart and leave you feeling good. Movies that make life feel less complex and the holiday more magical.

As a tribute to one of our favorite holiday pastimes and to inspire you to do some movie watching with your love, I wanted to share some memorable quotes from romantic holiday movies. You may recognize a few from my romantic holiday movies roundup. Because, indeed, they were that good. I’d love to know some of your favorites and if you’ve got any recommendations please leave them in the comments. Here are 12 great quotes from romantic holiday movies.

  • The Holiday 2 of 10

"I've found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said "Journeys end in lovers meeting." What an extraordinary thought. Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had. I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives. It was Shakespeare who also said "love is blind." Now that is something I know to be true. For some, quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost." ~ Iris

  • When Harry Met Sally 4 of 10

"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." ~ Harry

  • New Year’s Eve 5 of 10

"Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can't control. Earthquakes, floods, reality shows ... but it's important to remember the things that we can. Like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts ... Because the one thing that turns the world from the longing place to a beautiful place ... is love. Love and any of its forms. Love gives us hope ... Hope for the New Year." ~ Sam

  • The Family Man 6 of 10

"If you need this, Jack, if you really need this, I will take these kids from a life they love and I'll take myself from the only home we've ever shared together and I'll move wherever you need to go. I'll do that because I love you. I love you, and that's more important to me than our address. I choose us." ~ Kate

  • Sleepless in Seattle 8 of 10

"Look, Annie ... I love you. But let's leave that out of this. I don't want to be someone that you're settling for. I don't want to be someone that anyone settles for. Marriage is hard enough without bringing such low expectations into it, isn't it?" ~ Walter

  • Bridget Jones’s Diary 9 of 10

Mark Darcy: I like you, very much.

Bridget: Ah, apart from the smoking and the drinking, the vulgar mother and ... ah, the verbal diarrhea.

Mark Darcy: No, I like you very much. Just as you are.

  • While You Were Sleeping 10 of 10

"Do you believe in love at first sight? Nah, I betcha don't, you're probably too sensible for that. Or have you ever, like, seen somebody? And you knew that, if only that person really knew you, they would, well, they would of course dump the perfect model that they were with, and realize that YOU were the one that they wanted to, just, grow old with. Have you ever fallen in love with someone you haven't even talked to? Have you ever been so alone you spend the night confusing a man in a coma?"~ Lucy
