Get ready, because we’re about to make your day.
Over the weekend, newlyweds Kirk Henning and Valerie Tellmann-Henning became Internet sensations when a video from their wedding went viral. Kirk, a professional dancer, along with his eight groomsmen, surprised Valerie, a ballerina, with a choreographed performance on the very stage where the couple first danced together. (We know, awwww!)
In the video, which was shot by the couple’s wedding photographer Ginger Topham and has now reached over 840k views on YouTube, the men dance their way through a medley of pop hits including Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” Britney Spears’ “Crazy,” Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando,” Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone,” Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance with Me,” and more.
The eight-minute dance was choreographed by Kirk as a surprise for his wife. Valerie later told Richmond Times-Dispatch that her husband denied working on the performance for months, claiming he was too busy when she would drop hints.
“I told him early on in the wedding planning process, ‘Well, I hope you’re working on your groomsmen dance for me,’ ” she said. “But he was so busy with touring and school, he said, ‘Valerie, it’s just not going to happen.’”
In reality, Kirk had been planning the surprise for four months prior to their wedding on July 25.
“I knew how important it was to her,” Kirk said. “So I figured, we’re going to do this or die trying.”
Kirk prepared for the performance by sending tutorial videos to his groomsmen (most of whom are not professional dancers) so they could learn all of the steps. Even Valerie’s brother — whom she describes as having “two left feet” — got in on the action, though he only had one rehearsal before the big day.
After the epic performance, Topham commented that the guests were “blown away.”
“People are loving,” Valerie said of the popular video. “People love to see other people happy.”
