Barbie Unveils 17 New Empowering “Sheroes” of the Past and Present
Just in time for International Women’s Day, Barbie has unveiled 17 new dolls honoring inspiring women throughout history — and each one’s more badass than the next.
The new “sheroes” are the latest additions to the Inspiring Women™ series, a collection that celebrates notable women throughout history, both in the past and the present.
“With 86% of U.S. moms worried about the type of role models their daughters are exposed to, Barbie is committed to shining a spotlight on women who are changing the world for girls and sparking a global conversation around the importance of positive role models,” a press release from Mattel shared this week.
And the toy giant has definitely sparked a convo.
While the line pays homage to noteworthy women of the past (including new additions like Frida Kahlo and Amelia Earhart), it also makes way for a new generation of “sheroes” who are still living, and have plenty of years ahead to keep shattering that glass ceiling. Fourteen of the new dolls will honor modern-day change-makers, including filmmaker Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), snowboarder Chloe Kim, conservationist Bindi Irwin, and even boxing champion Nicola Adams — all available for pre-order now!
