20 Fall Outfits for Inspiration

August is a tricky month for fashion. Temperatures are blazing, but fall fashion is already on everyone’s minds. Malls are stocked with fall options and fashion magazines are in cold-weather mode. Here are 20 fall outfits to mentally prepare you for fall, and to recreate once temperatures drop. Which one is your favorite?

  • The Graphic Sweater 2 of 19

The graphic sweater trend first came onto the retail scene last year, and is still going strong this year. Here are two ways to wear an Old Navy fox sweater from last season.

  • The Chambray Top 3 of 19

This outfit works for the seasonal transition with burgundy tones, a striped skirt and chambray shirt, all items that feel fresh again this year.

  • The Pumpkin Blazer 4 of 19

Nothing says fall like warm tones such as a pumpkin blazer, cognac pumps, and a caramel leather handbag. (This is also another way to wear a chambray shirt!)

  • The Camo Pants 5 of 19

Camouflage - most people either love it or hate, but personally, I'm a fan! Here's a look with my camo skinnies from last year, which I plan to wear this year, too.

  • The Leather Skirt 6 of 19

Leather everything is hot for fall - leather skirts, leather jackets, even leather shirts (which usually come in a sheath shape). This skirt is a vintage hand-me-down, and see previous photo for another example. You can't go wrong with a classic leather jacket.

  • Polka Dots & Stripes 7 of 19

Polka dots and stripes are both classic patterns that never really go out of style. Try pairing them together this fall for a fun twist!

  • The Ankle Boot 8 of 19

Can't wait to break out your ankle boots? Try pairing them with a dress with a fall-inspired color palette like rich reds, greens, browns and yellows.

  • The Aztec Sweater 9 of 19

Big sweaters are super cozy and feel amazing on chilly fall days. Try one in a fun aztec print to add some zest to this comfy style!

  • Two-Tone Shoes 10 of 19

Two-toned shoes like these cap toe flats add a little something fun to your neutral outfits and are surprisingly easy to pair with just about anything.

  • The Cropped Trouser 11 of 19

Have some fun with your work pants this fall. Try a fun print in a cropped length that will allow you to show off your shoes.

  • The Cobalt Blazer 12 of 19

Cobalt is a great color for fall, or any time of year. Try pairing your cobalt pieces with black as the seasons switch.

  • Leopard Accessories 13 of 19

If it feels like leopard has been in style for ages, then you are correct. This classic print first came on the scene in the 1960s and has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in recent years.

  • The Bow Blouse 14 of 19

Bow blouses are lady-like, feminine and add a certain something to your usual work attire. Try one in a chain link print like this version from Banana Republic last year.

  • The Military Jacket 15 of 19

I couldn't get enough of my military jacket last year, and the same rings true this year! Try one with everything from a dress, a casual graphic tee and jeans, or boots and a striped top as pictured.

  • The Boucle Jacket 16 of 19

Another item to spice up your work wardrobe - a boucle jacket! Try one in a fall color like this navy version from Zara last year.

  • The Trench Coat 17 of 19

I've had this trench for ages (around 7 years is my best guess), but I can't wait to wear it again this fall. Trenches are a classic piece that feel oh-so-right for fall.

  • The Tweed Blazer 18 of 19

Everything tweed is in style this fall, like this blazer from H&M last year!

  • Fall Prints 19 of 19

Prints are all the rage, and especially ones in fall colors and themes (this eShakti top reminds me of a pile of leaves, although it's actually a feather print). Give one a try for an easy outfit!
