6 Subtle Ways to Try the Animal Print Trend

Ever since I can remember I’ve loved animal prints. It’s one of those timeless patterns that can work for any season. In fact, I have a few pieces that have stayed in my wardrobe since I was a teenager! This season brands have been releasing animal print at record levels, so it’s a great time to stock up on pieces you love. Pick a classic shape, like a ballet flat or clutch, if you want to keep it in your wardrobe rotation for the next decade, or have fun and grab something trendy and fun, like tennis shoes or a pair of high-waisted shorts. Whatever your fashion needs for fall, you’re sure to go wild over these six ways to wear animal print and tips on where to wear them.

1. Accessorize That Animal Print

The easiest way to add animal print to your outfit is to accessorize with the speckled print. Shoes and clutches can be worn with virtually anything, from jeans and T-shirts to little black dresses. Because they dress up these comfortable pieces, this combo is great for lunch with the girls or a PTA meeting.

2. Balance the Bold

You can go bold by picking an article of clothing that is the main focal point. A shirt or even a dress, which covers the majority of your outfit’s real estate, can make a statement. If you feel like it’s a little too much for your everyday life, pair it down with basic black. A simple skirt or tights and black shoes will help keep your outfit timeless and sophisticated. This outfit will wow for that special date night or bring a formal touch for the opera or ballet.

3. Keep It Casual

Animal print doesn’t need to be dressed up. These leopard slip-on trainers are easy to slip on and bring your boring outfit to too-cool-for-school status. Already graduated from school? This outfit can also be worn to run errands around town. Can we also talk about how cute this modern fanny-pack is?

4. Mix Patterns

Similar to the last outfit, it’s all about the shoes. These shoes are a middle ground between all gussied up and dressed down. And they also show how you can mix patterns. Animal print and stripes are one of my favorite combos, up there with chocolate and peanut butter. I would wear this outfit to church or even for an important meeting (depending on your field).

5. Add Just a Touch

Animal print doesn’t always have to be the star of your outfit show; it looks just as hip in a supporting role. This belt is subtle and shows that style is showcased even in the details. Floral and leopard are another great combo. This outfit is perfect for a first date or a wedding.

6. Style with a Purpose

This animal print scarf is great for the summer/fall transition. Not only is it darling, but it’s also practical and completely about comfort. This scarf is neutral, so you’ll be able to pair it with a few different colors. Plus, scarfs are especially fun because you can be creative in how you wrap them; there are tons of options.

I’ve loved getting to pair these animal pieces with different outfits. It’s a fun trend and you can add style in a simple way, which is good for all of us and our busy lives. Now go walk on the wild side.
