A good structured blazer is one of my favorite pieces in my closet. It’s such a staple and gives any outfit a little extra dose of sophistication. I tend to wear mine the most during the cooler months, but have realized that when it’s not blazing hot outside, they can be a great alternative to a lightweight jacket during the summer — especially for cool summer nights.
Try these ways to wear your blazer during the summer months (so you get the most bang for your blazer buck), and make some killer sophisticated-chic outfits while still not overheating.
1. With Shorts for a Casual Look
I’m such a huge fan of outfit juxtapositions, and the contrast between a pair of denim cut-offs and a sophisticated blazer is so great, I think. Add a pretty blouse and some simple loafers and you have a casual-preppy outfit, perfect for summer.
2. With an Eyelet Skirt for a Work-Appropriate Look
When you work in a professional environment, it can be tough to find summery options in a sea of pant suits. Blazer to the rescue! Skip the matching pencil skirt and instead throw in a super-summery skirt like this bright-pink eyelet option. Then add a pair of unexpected sandals, and you’re ready for a summery-chic day at the office.
3. With Converses for a Sporty-Chic Look
Basic shift dresses are a summer staple for me and go with everything from sandals to hats to tennis shoes. But a shapeless style of dress like this one can easily be unflattering and frumpy, so throw on a blazer for a bit of structure and shape. The mix of the blazer and the Converses (and a pony tail) makes for a super sporty-chic look.
4. With a Maxi Dress During Summer Nights
Maxi dresses are a summer staple and are perfect for a hot summer day as a swimsuit coverup, or just by itself. But when you’re going out for dinner in the evening, throw on a blazer to add a bit of structure to all that fabric.
5. With a Graphic Tee for a Playful Look
The graphic tee is a huge trend that is probably not going away any time soon. I love them just as much as the next person, but sometimes they can feel a little juvenile. So throw on a blazer and suddenly you have an age-appropriate outfit that is still fun and playful, but simultaneously super-chic.
6. With a Fit and Flare Dress
Fit and flare is my favorite style of dress these days, and it’s a match made in heaven with a fitted, structured blazer. These dresses can certainly stand alone, but if you’re looking for something to complete the look, throw on a blazer and watch the outfit totally transform from good to AMAZING. Seriously, just try it.
