17 Chic Wool Winter Coats in Must-Have ColorsRachel Matos
Being in the NYC museum field for so long, I got very used to wearing a lot of black. It wasn’t until recently that I decided it was OK to wear color. However, I still play it very safe and typically stick to dark jewel tones. As much as I love pastels and light colors, it really does not suit me. And when it comes to a coat, I love a very tailored, classic fit.
If you’re like me and melt when you see a luxurious deep blue scarf or love the look of a classic trench coat, here’s a list of 17 chic wool winter coats in must-have colors — rich reds, deep blues, emeralds, and purples.
Red Trench Coat 1 of 17
The coat I'm wearing is a bit on the red side as you can clearly see but I actually love the way it looks when combined with black. The jacket was a bit "boxy," so to create a more flattering silhouette, I cinched the waist with a large black belt.
Dark Jade Funnelneck Coat 2 of 17
What's not to love about this coat? I love the color mixed with black. The leather-trimmed slash pockets and belt, the collar and silhouette defines chic and edgy all in one. My kind of coat!
Burgundy Gates Coat 3 of 17
You can't go wrong with a burgundy coat. Whether you mix this color with beige or black, you can easily transform your look from day to night. The round collar leaves it open for a beautiful cowl neck sweater, necklace or cashmere scarf.
Dark Purple Trench Coat 4 of 17
I'm all for a tailored look, and this trench coat has it all! With jeans or a great pair of sleek pants, this coat is pure style.
Black Leather-Trim Coat 5 of 17
OK, so this isn't a "color" technically but I had to add this to the slideshow because it really just always goes back to black for me. The pockets are way too good not to share.
Amethyst Wool Trench Coat 6 of 17
This color is a bit bright for what I'm going for here but I really do like it. The purple family is always fun to play around with. Plus, how awesome is that collar?
Navy and Red Wool Military Coat 7 of 17
This has chic written all over it. Two classic colors joined together in this beautiful military coat. Truly a statement coat that looks absolutely stunning with a swipe of red lipstick.
Deep Brown Long Maxi Coat 8 of 17
I always stayed away from brown until I noticed that it really complimented my skin tone and hair color. Whatever color you choose, I think a long trench should definitely be a wardrobe must-have.
Royal Blue Majorelle Coat 9 of 17
This is very pretty and light for warmer climate areas, like Los Angeles. This is perfect for adding a pop of color to your outfit.
Emerald Green Double-breasted Basillia Coat 10 of 17
This is the perfect coat if you're wearing a skirt, and I just love the color. Emerald is one of my favorite shades of green — and with the gold buttons, this look is classic.
Ruby Double-breasted Boucle Coat 11 of 17
This is a beautiful shade of red that's great for casual wear. This would dress up a pair of jeans and flats in no time, and would look amazing with a leopard-print bag.
Dark Green Wool Twill Peplum Coat 12 of 17
This coat is so out of my price range but really ... is it not gorgeous? It's a "Christmas in New York" kind of coat for a Broadway show or 5th Avenue dinner.
Brown Double-breasted Stand Collar Wool Coat 13 of 17
Visiting the color brown again, this is great for work or for everyday wear. The collar is versatile and I love the silhouette.
Hazelnut Belted Wool Maxi Coat with Fur Trim 14 of 17
Whether it's real or faux (wherever you fall on the spectrum), a bit of fur trim adds a lot of fabulousness to your look. This hazelnut color is beautifully rich and a good length for skirts or dresses.
Royal Blue Pea Coat 15 of 17
The royal blue, white, and black color combo is so chic together. I'm really sold on recreating this look.
Violet Double-breasted Coat 16 of 17
Violet is such a beautiful color, and being completely draped spells royalty if you ask me. I really like this coat.
Cobalt Wool Coat 17 of 17
Back to royal blue, but this coat is full-on versatile and has lots of great details. I love the shoulders. If you want to see more coat and color options, check out these 7 Colorful Winter Coats.
