Chinese New Year Red: How to Style the Year of the Horse

The Chinese do New Year’s celebrations right — with colorful parades, amazing firework displays, and a party that lasts about 15 days until the last full moon rises. Traditionally, you would wear a cheongsam — a fitted silk dress with a high neck and collar — but don’t think you have to wear that same dress year after year. In fact, now is the perfect time to add a little red (and gold!) to your closet — items that you can wear for the rest of the year, too! You can’t go wrong in choosing red and gold for the Chinese New Year. Red represents good fortune in Chinese culture, which is why it’s traditionally worn during wedding ceremonies to chase away bad luck. Meanwhile, gold symbolizes wealth and happiness!

In this round-up, we’ve got fancy chiffon dresses and glittery gold flats if you’re headed to a fancy party. If you’re just heading out to watch the parades, try a simple skater dress with pumps in the traditional, celebratory colors.
