5 Events I Can’t Wait To Show My KidsMonica Bielanko
I can still remember the first time I saw The Nutcracker.
To be honest with you, to this day I think it’s the only time I’ve ever seen The Nutcracker.
My mom took me when I was maybe 5 or 6. It blew my mind. At that age I didn’t realize the ballet dancer playing Clara was much older. I thought she was actually a little girl and it inspired me to think about the world and my possibilities within it in an entirely new way.
That’s why I was so excited to take Violet to her first show. Yeah sure, it was The Fresh Beat Band but still. It’s super important to me to be able to show her all the creative things that people are up to. Especially the stuff that involves music.
A strong appreciation can change your life. Take a look at any viral video featuring kids. So many of them involve kids dancing or singing to music. As Naomi wrote right here on Toddler Times, music not only increases your toddler’s sensory development but it can change their mood instantly. I know that when my kids are bordering on tantrums in the car all I have to do is push in their favorite CD and crisis averted.
My kids love music in the car, on the computer and on TV. That’s why I can’t wait to introduce them to music in all its amazing capacities. Below are the five musical events I can’t wait to show my kids:
Concert 1 of 5Considering that their dad was a working musician for most of his life, I think a full band concert is the first thing I'd like to introduce them to. A band with catchy songs and a lot of instruments. Dave Matthews would be perfect and they just happen to be touring right now.

Broadway 2 of 5Wicked would be cool, but I think the first Broadway play I'd want to show Violet is Peter Pan. Like IlanaWiles, I can't wait to share the theater with my kids but think it's important not to take them when they're too young and can't appreciate it all.

The Symphony 3 of 5My kids are both fascinated by instruments. What better way to show them instruments in their full glory than the symphony? The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is currently touring the country. I think I'll end up waiting a couple years, though.

The Opera 4 of 5The opera has always just been totally BEYOND to me. Like, I can't even fathom how those people use their voices like that. It's definitely something I want to expose my children to earlier rather than later. I want them to have a healthy appreciation of all different kinds of music.
