Why, you may ask, have I posted a photo of our Elf on the Shelf in MARCH?
Our elf, Louie, should by all accounts be chillin’ at the North Pole with Santa. Instead, he is in holed up in my bedroom closet.
I know that he’s in my closet, because that’s where my 2-year-old son found him yesterday, right before he looked up at me with his enormous brown eyes and asked with confusion on his face, “Why is Louie here?”
Complete. Mom. Fail.
My heart sank when I saw that he had found our elf.
I meant to put him away in a safe place after Christmas, but just stuffed him into an area in my closet where I didn’t think my son would find him until then. Needless to say, I forgot all about him.
I had to tell Evan that our elf was simply stopping by to check up on things, but that he had to be off to the North Pole immediately. I didn’t give the conversation a lot of attention, and quickly shifted to another topic.
We spent weeks explaining to Evan why Louie had disappeared after the holidays, and now my blunder brought the topic back to life again!
Have you ever made a mom blunder with your toddler, and had to cover your tracks?
