Cooperstown, NY Family Trip Insider Tips: What to See

I was born and raised in Cooperstown, New York and still travel there frequently. It is a small town that is world-renowned for being the birthplace of baseball and the home of the famous author James Fenimore Cooper. These days it is best known for The Baseball Hall of Fame. Of course, this museum is extraordinary, but there is so much more to the town! To share some of my favorite Cooperstown travel tips, including museums, kids activities, and restaurants, I am going to doing a three part travel series. If there is anything I leave out that you want to know just ask!

Today we will talk about awesome things to do with kids in Cooperstown, New York!

Well, duh, go to the Hall of Fame! I mean, this is probably why you've heard of Cooperstown in the first place. Don't waste time when you reach town - just go there! It is totally kid oriented and so much fun to roam.

Hot tip: you can go trick-or-treating there on Halloween!

This living, working farm is a traditional 18th century village. It is a blast to take the kids to because they can roam free (let them loose from the strollers!) and they are basically invited to participate in and touch everything they see. My daughter's favorite? Shearing the sheep in the summer and the Sugaring Off breakfasts each spring.

Hot tip: Their candlelight vigil is at Christmas time and it is not to be missed.

Hot tip: Before you go check if they have any special kids events or art lectures going on that day. The patio in the back is great for lunch on the lake.

Hot tip: The Ommegang concert series is a blast, check the listings in case you need to buy some tickets.
