The beaches are deserted and our jackets are slowly being replaced by parkas, but that doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to our swimsuits. Even though the cold weather has taken the place of the balmy days of July and August, there are plenty of properties that provide plenty of laughs and tons of fun for the entire family. Yes, I’m talking indoor water parks.

We’re big fans of Great Wolf Lodge and have taken our kids to the Niagara Falls location several times in an effort to escape the cold and snow. With the warm atmosphere and numerous water slides to choose from, it certainly feels as though you’ve run away to somewhere tropical.

1. Great Wolf Lodge, Various Locations

As I previously mentioned, Great Wolf Lodge is one of our favorite indoor water parks for kids. With its lodge-like atmosphere, numerous rides and slides as well as evening family parties, activities and programs, this is the perfect place for families and kids of all ages.

2. Kalahari, Various Locations

Kalahari Resort is on our ‘must-visit’ list, as I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from everyone who’s visited. Kalahari Resorts’ offers 125,000 square feet of indoor water fun, including water slides galore, private cabanas, a swim-up bar, family raft ride, indoor wave pool and so much more. This is one resort you won’t want to miss!

3. Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, Boyne Falls, Michigan

This is the largest indoor water park hotel in Michigan with 88,000 square feet of slides, rides, kids pools, lazy river, surf simulator and climbing walls. Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark also won the 2012 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

4. Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Indoor Waterpark, Galveston, Texas

Chill on a secluded indoor beach along the Torrent River, or take a vertical plunge from the top of the 70-foot-high Rohr! tower that will take you at speeds over 30 mph down a 244 foot-long slide. Those are just two of the attractions you’ll find at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston.

5. Wilderness Territory Waterpark Resort, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

America’s largest waterpark resort sits on 600 acres in Wisconsin Dells. In addition to 500,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor water parks, this resort offers a huge variety of accommodation options, including hotel rooms, vacation villas, condominiums and cabins. 8. Splash Lagoon, Erie, Pennsylvania

The Wild Waters Wave Pool at the Splash Lagoon Water Park is the largest wave pool (200,000 gallons) in the eastern USA and just one of the many water attractions at the Splash Lagoon. The Aqua Tumbler will turn you upside down and sideways in an endless loop inversion, while the Tiki Tree House provides five stories and 12 levels of activities. 10. Fallsview Indoor Waterpark, Niagara Falls, Ontario

This waterpark is located inside the Sheraton Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The amazing thing about this 125,000 square foot park is that it is built on top of a six-story parking garage and offers floor-to-ceiling windows that provide amazing views of Niagara Falls. There are plenty of water slides, water jets, cannons and a 1,000 gallon tipping bucket.

12. Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, Fingers Lake, New York

The Cascades Indoor Waterpark at the Hope Lake Lodge is 41,000 square feet and is the only indoor water park in Central New York. Story tube slides, an activity tower, body slides pools, and a toddler activity area make this a great choice for families and kids of all ages.

The Wild WaterDome’s see-through roof makes you feel as though you’re outside, but you don’t have to worry about rain, sleet or snow as this indoor water park is set to a balmy temperature year-round. Thanks to the Foil Tech glass used on the roof, you can even get a tan!
