10 Things You Should Buy on Christmas Clearance

After being closed for Christmas, all my favorite stores opened bright and early on the 26th with 50% off their holiday items — and many other hidden bargains they only carry through Christmas. I had a chance to shop last night and again today, grabbing a few deals on last-minute gifts for a family gathering this weekend. And I’m sure I’ll be back a few times before the holiday goodies are completely cleared away.

There are just foo many great deals to pass up — and most of them aren’t even actual Christmas items! I’ve already bought next year’s wrapping paper and replaced our broken Christmas lights. Now is the perfect time to buy a new artificial tree, update your holiday decor, or buy new stockings for a growing family.

But, there are several things that will clearance with the holiday decorations that you can use all year long. Here are non-Christmas clearance items I’m keeping an eye on this year.

  • Linens 2 of 6

Sheets, tablecloths, and placemats are being marked down right now. Some of my favorite year-round table cloths have been purchased on holiday clearance. Now is the time to buy flannel sheets if you want a warm set before winter really kicks in.

  • Toys and Games 3 of 6

Retailers keep an overstock of toys and games through the holiday shopping season. They're already starting to mark down the excess. Shop now for birthdays. Consider buying a few inexpensive, classic items to have on hand for when your kids are invited to parties all year.

  • Baking Goods 4 of 6

Bakeware and candy-making supplies will be on clearance as the holiday baking season comes to a close. Use the opportunity to update your kitchen supplies a bit — new baking sheets, popcorn poppers, and other kitchen appliances will be marked down right alongside Christmas cookie cutters.

  • Beauty Sets 5 of 6

Check out the prepackaged gift sets in the beauty aisle — it's a great time to stock up on bubble bath, lotions, shampoos, and makeup you already use. (Plus, check out Bath & Body Works' $3 sale right now — your favorite scents for less than grocery store prices.)

  • Candles 6 of 6

We light candles every evening. But the only time I ever buy them is around the holidays. Some of the clearance items will be holiday scents, but I'm okay with the sweet smell of Christmas cookies filling our house at any time!
